About Garu

Garu (/ga lu/) is the phonetic spelling of the Korean word “가루,” which means powder or flour. The name reflects the integration of chef Jen’s western culinary training and her Korean roots. Therefore, when you bite into a baked good from Garu Bread & Butter, it is a culmination of chef Jen’s journey through childhood, culinary training and travel experiences.

Meet the chef behind Garu ​Bread & Butter!

Jen is the heart and soul behind Garu ​Bread & Butter. As a child, she enjoyed ​baking cookies and cakes for her friends, ​family and greater community. Her love ​for pastries extended into bread when ​Jen attended pastry school and was ​inspired by Master Baker Jeffrey ​Hamelman. She appreciates the ​versatility and creativity that come with ​making a good loaf of bread. And let’s be ​honest, who doesn’t love the feeling of ​biting into a warm slice of bread?

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

We are located in Ventura County, but we have weekly drop off/pick up in locations in LA and sometimes Santa Barbara. Refer to our order form for the most current dates and locations.


WHEN TO ORDER?

The orders need to be placed 3 days prior to the pick up/drop off dates. The most current dates and locations can be found in the order form.


BEST WAY TO REWARM THEM?

If using a conventional oven, preheat to 350 F, then bake 7-10 min until firm to touch.

If using a toaster oven or air fryer, bake at 320 F for 5 min or until firm to touch.


BEST WAY TO STORE THEM?

If not eating the baked goods right away, wrap items in saran wrap or ziplock bag. Simply defrost and bake when ready to eat. Avoid using the microwave to reheat the croissants, as it alters the texture.
